INDIVIDUAL ADULT COUNSELING PSYCHOTHERAPY, WITH DALE

How do I work with individual adults in counseling?

Walk-in-a-forest-000028370700_FullMy first priority is to develop trust and connection with you. Research demonstrates having a trusting relationship with the therapist is the best indicator for a successful outcome.

When a person enters individual counseling, we discuss the issues they want to focus on. I may utilize tested and validated self-report questionnaires to identify specific areas the person may be struggling with, and develop treatment goals with the individual.

My primary model of counseling is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Check out my Blog post for more information about CBT. While I think CBT is a very useful model for the majority of people, I have an eclectic and holistic view of people. While people bring to therapy many of the same challenges, each person is unique. That unique difference between people shapes how I work with each individual and each couple.

  • I have training in psychodynamic therapy.
  • I teach mindfulness meditation, belly breathing, progressive relaxation, guided imagery, and self-hypnosis.
  • I may also utilize clinical hypnosis (if you consent), and other strategies based on the issue the person brings to counseling.

I have extensive experience and training in:

  • Anxiety, panic, phobia, generalized anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive.
  • Depression
  • Grief
  • Transitional stress due to major life events, such as, loss of a loved one, divorce, job loss, caregiving a parent, spouse or child, or other stressful event.
  • Work stress
  • Insomnia
  • Process/behavioral addiction:  Love addiction, fantasy addiction, and sex addiction in women.
  • Couple Counseling
